Currently, I am a Staff Scientist at Science North in Sudbury Ontario
and am also enrolled in the Science Communication programme at Laurentian
University. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Marine Biology from Dalhousie University. My main interest in science communication is the role of the science centre in communicating science news and current research. Having been a Park Interpreter previous to working at Science North, I also have an interest in outdoor environmental education. |
| The Great Canadian Science Adventure |
"This
brand new exhibit project is a collaborative exhibit development
project led by the Canadian Association of Science Centres
(CASC). It is an exhibit that looks at Canada - from space, from under
the ground, through the eyes of the scientist. It will be a walk
through and over Canada, with activities and exhibits that unify
diverse subjects with depth, insight, and humour." Over the past year, I have been a member of the project development team for The Great Canadian Science Adventure. Science North and Exploration Place in Prince George, BC have been working collaboratively on one module titled the 'Wilderness Adventure'. This space will feature the wildlife, wildlands and wild science of Canada's wilderness. |
Ontario Envirothon
Provincial Competition 2006 |
The Ontario Envirothon is an interactive, outdoor education competition for grades 9-12. Each year Science North hosts the Sudbury Regional Envirothon with teams competing from Sudbury, Espanola and Manitoulin Island. This year, Science North and the Ontario Forestry Association will also be hosting the Provincial Competition with the winning team heading to the International Competition in Winnipeg, MB. Each year teams compete in five different areas: aquatics, wildlife, forestry, soils and a special topic. This year's special topic is Water Stewardship in a Changing Climate. |

Currently under development at Science North, Ends of the Earth: From Polar Bears to Penguins is a travelling exhibition that will take visitors from one end of our globe to the other to explore the fascinating (and cold!) worlds of the Arctic and Antarctic. I have been involved in the concept and schematic design developments of this exciting new project. Throughout the Science Communication Program, I have focused much of my research and assignments to polar topics including the International Polar Year and the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. |
